Higher Academic Awards
The Higher Academic Awards Committee considers applications and proposals for the conferment of readerships, innovation and engagement fellowships, professorships, visiting professorships, visiting fellows and emeritus professorships. They also consider applications for the award of higher doctorates.
Readers
A Reader will have demonstrated excellence in research and publication and to provide leadership (e.g. through the activities of research centres and research units). A Reader must also continue to demonstrate compentence as a teacher.
Innovation and Engagement Fellow
An Innovation and Engagement Fellow will have demonstrated excellence in innovation and engagement activities and applied research and to provide leadership (e.g through the activities in centres of research and by demonstrating learning from the expertise and insight of the different communities with which they engage).
Professor
A Professor will have demonstrated outstanding qualities of academic leadership and will be expected to have substantially furthered the aims of higher education generally and/or the university in particular.
Visiting Fellow
The status of visiting fellow will be conferred on those from the industrial, professional or voluntary sectors who are expected to make a significant contribution to the university’s scholarship research, innovation or academic development but whose experience and expertise lies in areas other than those covered by the professorial criteria.
Visiting Professor
The status of visiting professor will be conferred on those who are expected to make a substantial contribution to the university’s scholarship, research or innovation, or for furthering the university’s external collaborative relationships.
